How long does it take to make the ETT?

We aim to deliver your Eco Timber Tent between 6 - 8 weeks from signing the order plans. This can fluctuate during high season.

How long does it take to deliver the ETT and what’s the cost of the delivery?

We work with various transportation companies in order to provide a fair and accurate delivery structure and value for money. The cost of the delivery and how long it takes depends on where you are based. Please contact us for up-to-date information.

Does an ETT require a planning permission?

As an ETT might be classified as a temporary structure, in most cases you do not need a planning permission to build it on your own land. However, please check it with your local authority, as planning laws may vary from country to country.

How to prepare the site for constructing an ETT?

In order to give your Eco Timber Tent a good start and ensure a long life, it must be built on hardstanding that lifts the whole structure a few inches off the ground to protect it from rising ground moisture and to let the structure breathe. The hardstanding does not need to be a pad of solid concrete - some concrete pavement slabs on levelled-out, crushed stone would be more than enough.

What is the estimated lifespan of an ETT?

Without any treatment - a decade; with - double that.

As long as the hut is lifted a little bit off the ground / is not standing in water, it will last a long time without any treatment. Plus, the overhanging roof protects the timber structure well underneath.

Moreover, your ETT will have pre-treated floor joists just to make sure it does not get affected by the raising moisture from the ground.

However, in order to further extend the lifespan of your ETT, our advice would be to treat it with natural, petrochemical-free materials. The first step would be an anti-fungal, anti-rot treatment. The second step would be treating with a natural oil , such as linseed oil based paint which protects the wood from moisture, is breathable, does not create a layer on the surface, and if you decide re-apply it a few years later, the remains do not have to be removed and can be just painted on the top.

What do we mean by ‘Eco’?

We use word ‘Eco’ - short for Ecological – because from the very beginning our goal was to design and build ‘100% natural’, durable and sustainable shelter. A structure that is friendly to nature (and is ideally, part of it!) and will not contaminate the earth.

To sum up the tent’s Eco credentials:

• no petrochemical paints, sealants, glues or fillers have been used. The unique design and lessons from time-tested traditional techniques allowed us to avoid these, making the structure allergen-free and breathable, and yet, sturdy and water-tight;

• the main type of timber we use is Scandinavian Spruce which is considered one of the most renewable, strong, and durable building material on the market. In addition, it’s been noted that spruce timber contains a resin with essential oils that not only exude a pleasant odour in buildings, but also has been said to clear respiratory passages, has anti-inflammatory properties and expectorant properties when inhaled;

• another type of wood we have chosen to use - Siberian Larch - comes from proven sustainable sources and has its own natural embedded ‘protection’ against forces of nature: having grown under harsh conditions of the Siberian climate, it practically ‘locks’ itself with its own abundant resin. Structures made from it have been said to last at least 50 years without any maintenance or artificial treatment;

• the whole structure itself is friendly to and easy on the natural environment, and when it comes to it, is fully recyclable without doing any harm to the increasingly fragile natural world we inhabit.
